Amazing to me how tariff-fear-mongering happens before the tariffs begin. Projecting much? Why do "they" (above) worry about enforcing existing immigration laws? Are the laws wrong?
As far as I know, there are no cuts to education, only the Federal DOE. Turn that department's money over to the states.
My guess is that DOGE has found, as elsewhere, monumental waste, fraud and abuse in the Veterans' Services department and the potential loss of 80,000 employees may in fact make it more efficient and effective. Businesses who trim back do so in order to become stronger.
I have no problem with the intent and direction of DOGE and Trump. I call it hero's work. Make us leaner. The US government is substantially too big, the regulations too cumbersome, the kickbacks too egregious. Try running a business the way the Federal Government does and you will cease to exist.

HumblyYours, I'm curious: if Musk has found billions of dollars of fraud, why hasn't anyone been arrested? It seems like if he has found true illegality, they would be running real investigations instead of these smash and grab operations.

I do keep hearing however that Musk is firing groups of people who are investigating potential crimes by Musk and his companies. And while Musk and Trump brag about Musk's leadership at doge, they are arguing in court that Musk is not a federal employee and does not run doge. That seems to me like a much more clear-cut case of fraud.

And one last point: no government or governmental agency should be run like a business because they are fundamentally different things. A government exists for the benefit and protection of its people and it does not and should not exist to generate profit.

Indiscriminately and haphazardly slashing government budgets may save money and make the government (in your words) lean, but there will be (and already are) reductions in customer service.

Most of us already complain that dealing with government is difficult.

The current administration’s actions will make this worse.

Changing staffing levels and changing regulations are two different things.

DOGE is doing the former.

Getting the latter done is a lot harder.

Around 30% of the staff of the VA are VETERANS. They serve because they care....not because they are getting rich doing this work. Caring for one another is called being human. Not caring about anyone but yourself makes all of us poorer.

With all the heart-wrenching deprivation facing this nation as we descend into the cruel abyss of autocracy, I am the most demoralized by the disappearance of American values, something I once took for granted. Regardless of political perspectives, we did used to care about each other, or so I believed. Made me feel proud. Now a large percentage of the folks seem to believe that the chainsaw approach will benefit them (it won’t) and the inhumane cost to lives and livelihoods does not matter. American values are history, what a profound shame.

Tree. It gets worse. NYT article How Trump's 51st State Talk Came to be seen as Deadly Serious. Written by Matina Stevis-Gridneff the NYT Canada bureau chief. Canada sees Trump's America preparing to take Canada using economic force and maybe other force. They do not think Trump's America is kidding around. Canadians are worried for their sovereignty. It makes me angry and sad.

It is interesting to me that Salinas pretends to speak for the people who voted for President Trump and likely have never voted for her! It is kind of laughable when she says although people voted for him they didn’t vote for what he is doing! First it shows how out of touch she is with where people stand and what they are going through. Why else would we have voted for him? Unlike her party, he is doing what he said he would do. Novel idea to her apparently. He is making right, so many wrongs from past administration, if she isn’t going to help, she needs to get the heck out of the way and let the rest of us succeed.

Loretta. Did Trump say he was going to fire BPA employees or other highly important and sensitive places? Then higher some of the back because it was a mistake by Elon. Or not hiring some back, which may have consequences for all of us. No one voted for Elon did they. Did he promise to make our closes neighbors fear for their independence. Are you okay with Canadians worrying about Trump America taking them over? And it is not just from news. I have a neighbor who knows Canadians and pays attention to their current political elections. They take Trump's America threat very seriously.
