Another outstanding story from the word-processor of Ms. Starla Pointer!
The 'Future Farmers of America' colloquially labeled the 'FFA' is an integral part of America's agricultural tradition and economy.
Dayton High School's Administration (and associated School Board) should be congratulated on the establishment and continued successes of their 'Horticultural Program'.
Dayton's FFA Advisor, Mr. Mitch Coleman deserves the 'Lions-share' of reported accolades.
The use of 'plugs', production rates of plants, use of containers, marketing and food production is poetry eclipsed by genius. [Consider using 'compostable containers' for final sales purposes.]
Many Thanks' to the Stoller Family Estate for their patronage of plants for landscaping and for food use.
Dayton High School's embrace of the FFA and the creation of 'The Garden Shed' is one answer to mitigate food-costs; either to households, local restaurants and any and all places where food is consumed. And, to further the production of landscape plants used by; residents, visitors, municipalities and Yamhill County's Parks and governmental buildings.
The integration of FFA with biology, chemistry, economics, soil sciences and many other educational disciplines is the crux of the success of Dayton High School's Horticultural program.

Background...a few years ago...the cabal of Primozich, Olson and Starrett decided to contract with SEDCOR [Strategic Economic Development Corporation-a 'Non-profit'] to manage the 'Lottery Monies' allocated to Yamhill County from the State. I have OPPOSED this contract from 'Day-one-to this very date'. I also OPPOSE the creation of the whole administrative infrastructure to support the dispersal of the 'Lottery Monies'.
'Lottery Monies' should be dispersed by Yamhill County Commissioners and not costly 'Third-parties' and corresponding administrative infrastructure.
For example, 'Lottery Monies', if judicially dispersed and accounted for, could easily fund the 'operational costs' for jurisdictional 'Farmer's Markets'. This would create a renaissance of the Farmer's Market Business model. 'Vendors' would not be charged a 'Fee' to 'set-up shop' resulting in more Vendors selling their wares.
All Yamhill County residents and municipalities would reap many benefits.
Increased number of Vendors supports the local economy in a myriad of ways. More local people involved with agriculture, more products and cheaper prices. Hungry shoppers feasting at local restaurants and conducting trade with other Downtown businesses.
'Garden Centers' might also want to purchase plants grown by High School Horticultural programs such as 'The Garden Shed'.
We are in the initial throes of a 'Recession'.
We need several ways to stretch what dollars we have to spend...and Dayton High School's-'The Garden Shed' is a great success and resource.
