I don't want to ignore that this is a good decision (Not that the board had much of a choice). However, the goal of the policy was to send a message to black and queer students that the school board does not support them. So even without the policy, that message has already been sent load and clear. It will be important to watch closely as the school board moves forward to see how they behave. Will they simply move on, having done the damage they wanted to do or will they work to rebuild the trust of the students and the community?
In the meantime, I am glad that the policy has been rescinded.
