Man shot in McMinnville; suspect sought

Updated 4/18/23

A 36-year-old McMinnville man was the victim of a single gunshot wound shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Baker Street, according to McMinnville Police.

The victim was first transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center and later transferred to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. He was discharged following surgery, according to Police Capt. Tim Symons.

The suspect, who is being sought, and the victim were acquainted with each other, Symons said.

It’s unknown if the suspect fled the area on foot or by vehicle, according to Symons.

The Oregon State Police assisted McMinnville Police with its on-scene investigation. An Oregon Department of Transportation crew and McMinnville Public Works diverted traffic in the area.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Detective Daphne Plumeau at 503-435-5620, daphne.plumeau@mcminnvilloregon.gov; or Detective Riley Rediger at 503-434-3495, riley.rediger@mcminnvilleoreon.gov — and refer to case No. 23-1292.

Sad to hear about the shooting. Could it have been SW Adams blocked off? (Rather than Baker)

Bill B

Yep, SW Adams closed at 1st Street

Reporter Starla Pointer

Yes, it was southbound Adams blocked off at Second Street. I was there and should have known which street I was driving on, but called it by the wrong name. I fixed it in the story. Thanks!

Russ

Why was Adams closed off for a shooting on Baker as the story still says?

Jean

If only this shooting had been closer to the police station....

Wonder why it took so long for MAC PD to update us?

According to YCN Facebook postings, I would guess he was shot on Baker but managed to get to Adams where someone called for an ambulance. Or since he knew the person who shot him, maybe it was a fight that started on Baker and moved to Adams. I don't understand why the shooter has not been identified if they know who it was.

Thank God for the 2A. Becoming increasingly important as Mac continues it's free fall from what was once a great little town. You leave the gang graffiti up and you send a strong message that no one is in charge. No one cares. Anything goes. Time for the Mayor to step up and show some leadership. Our previous one was a hobby mayor. I'm still holding out hope that Remi can get the job done.

There are a number of houses that have Baker Street addresses but are essentially flag lots, actually situated closer to Adams.

3am is a good time to be indoors.
