Is there any month in 'the 9 month school year' that students are in class for the entire month? No! Is there any other full-time job with so many 'down days'? Not that I'm aware!

A 12 month school year might alleviate the scramble to find time for conferences and inservice days. And, obviously, a full-time teaching job would be just that, full time (like everyone else).

At one time, conferences were routinely scheduled during the hours after school was dismissed. When I learned days off, with no students, were granted for teacher-parent conferences, I felt shocked. Completely ridiculous. Occasionally, the traditional methods are superior.
