This year’s fourth annual celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McMinnville Community Center. Admission is free. It will feature food and crafts for sale, music and demonstrations, plus a kids’ activity area.

The New Year officially starts Feb. 17 and runs through Feb. 5, 2027.

Hosting the event is the Asian Heritage Association, which is committed to supporting Asian American community, culture and history in Yamhill County.

“Lunar New Year is the beginning of the calendar year and part of a lot of Asian traditions,” said Jill Mann, vice president of the AHA. “It’s a way for us to share our Asian culture with the community.

“There’s a lot of history of Asian people in Yamhill County, part of a really diverse culture,” she added.

Performances and demos at the Feb. 15 event will include a lion dance, a Korean cultural performance by Oregon Korean Performing Arts Association; music by Koto-Kai Japanese stringed instruments; martial arts by Summit Wushu; hula by Hula Halau ‘Ohana Holo’ko’a and taiko drumming.

Vendors include Aliza Cooks, LLC with miki noodles and almond milk; JoJo’s Taiwan Way Treats with baked goods and beverages; G&S Market Bento; Happy Nails.glo, with origami jewelry; Sakura Designs, origami earrings; /akiko’s Space, with Anime-style custom portraits; Su’s Bloom Garden, with information and free flower seeds; Thip Khao PDX, with Lao and Thai street foods and Thai ice tea; Wednesday Paper Co., with “silly stationery” and accessories; Sing Crystal, with reiki handmade jewelry and accessories; The Tea Musketeers, with black teas and tea accessories; and LV’s Kitchen, with Southeast Asian Cuisine, treats and drinks.

The AHA is organized by a board of six and numerous other volunteers. In addition to Lunar New Year, it hosts social events and is working on an Asian heritage museum project.

The AHA’s Lunar New Year event is supported in part by a grant from the Yamhill County Cultural Coalition.

Previous editions of the Lunar New Year event have drawn 750 to 1,000 or more people. The Mac Market was packed for the first event in 2023, prompting a move to the larger venue of the community center.
