I usually don’t like to judge other people, but this guy sounds like a threat....I assume he’s homeless, and having him wondering around McMinnville is a little concerning.....Is he allowed to be at the public library?

This is the type of thing transient camps bring in and maybe the occasional person on hard times. Our city council had to be pushed to do anything at all. My kids and grand kids are less safe since this council and mayor have been in office.

A very high percentage of the homeless are sex offenders who are unwelcome to live in neighbor hoods and can't pass a background check to rent citizens don't want them here!

Xmas...I don’t think you know what your talking about!
The homeless population is represented by many types of people. Veterans, families with kids and even people that actually hold jobs but can’t get into housing because of the cost.

To say a “large percentage “ are sex offenders is complete BS.....you should do some homework...

Hi Tagup, just wanted to let you know that Vanhouten is not allowed at the library, and all staff is aware and has orders to call the police immediately if he is seen on library grounds. We work with local law enforcement to keep track of folks who aren’t allowed to be in the library and respond quickly if someone does show up.

Thanks for your reply Courtney.....I’m glad to hear you and staff are being vigilant. Keep up the good work!

I was a police dispatcher at a large college in Salem and we had a significant amount of sex offenders registered for classes and all the ones I signed in were living at the Union Gospel Mission because they were not accepted by people in the neighborhoods they were released into. At that point I did research lots of research because I had family attending college there and found a very significant portion of the homeless population are sex offenders. There are Vets and families as well but Tagup if you think I am wrong then show me I'm happy to listen.

You made the claim...you prove it....your experience is pretty limited to say it covers all homeless people....

Ok...I took the bait....according to the California Dept of Justice, in 2017, 6% of all California sex offenders were registered as homeless(6,329 individuals).
The US interagency council on homelessness estimated that California had a homeless population of 151,278.
That makes the sex offender percentage of the total homeless population at 4.2%....Not a figure that most people would call a “very high percentage”......

Why does a bum with no fixed address need two mobile phones?

Mr. Vanhouten is a repeat offender that needs professional help. He would be a good candidate for sex offender housing, if there were such a place but the public screams "NOT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!" Without such housing there is no supervision and the Vanhoutens of this world are left to their own means....
