The News-Register has been leaning more and more to the left. Recent political cartoons continually take pot shots at Trump. And while, I don’t always agree with his actions, I believe he has done more good for our country in his first year in office than Joe Biden did in 4 years. I cringe to think of where our country would be if Kamala Harris had won the election. There is ZERO chance she could navigate complicated world events. As much as I support the News-Register for being a voice for our local community, and to some degree, their coverage of state issues, I’m becoming more and more disheartened with the cheap shots they take at Trump and Republicans with the political cartoons. The NR editorial board is very liberal, and this influences the selection of these political cartoons. Just to refresh my memory, I did a random search of NR archives from 2023- before the last presidential election- and while Biden was in office. There was NOT ONE cartoon poking fun at Biden/Harris. The NR can do a better job of political cartoons that are more “well rounded” and use this satirical tool to shed light on some of the MANY shenanigans Democrats are doing.

Additionally, the NR started featuring columns by Jonah Goldberg as a way to pacify requests for the NR to offer viewpoints to offset the strong left leaning bias in the paper. Goldberg characterizes himself as a conservative commentator with experience at FOX news. Perhaps. But he doesn’t go far enough to discuss the good things Trump and other Republicans are doing, I believe the NR could find a better journalist to offer a conservative to offset the many liberal musings by both the editorial board as well as by guest commentators. I hope they will consider such a thing.

CubFan, you're too nice. The NR editorial board thinks Jonah Goldberg is a right-wing radical. Not one of those evil MAGA Nazis they rant about, but still a right-wing nut. The reality is that Goldberg is a Bush country club republican, golfing with Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries on the weekends, and holds the same disdain for you and me as AOC and Mamdani.

They have the TDS, and bad. Look at the letters: you are not supposed to attack, insult, or personally attack, blah, blah, blah. They allow the same garbage in their newspaper every week from the same 4 or 5 people at Progressive Yamhill on repeat.

Goldberg hates Trump as much as they do. And the sickness is that they all think they are fair and balanced. That's why they will look at your comment and disregard it.

As an Independent who leans sharply left, I find the characterization of Democrats in a letter this week to be quite the revealing pronouncement. Evidently holding or expressing a different opinion can ONLY be viewed as “derangement” and failure to agree with the author makes everyone else a pathetic loser. (That attitude must make for some interesting social situations, eh?)

And the suggestion that it is “time to move on” from the Epstein child trafficking scandal says something too. Who benefits from moving on? The files have been so scrubbed and redacted how would we know who actually appears in hot tubs, “dental chairs,” or bedrooms? Several administrations have failed to investigate – shame on all of them – but as I recall, the predator was arrested, jailed, and died in 2019. We know who was President in 2019, right? For the sake of argument, it seems to me that the FBI and the DOJ were always in control of the files and investigations; no doubt the ongoing cover-up was initiated by them as well. Could be that the Presidents (trump included) were limited as to what they were “allowed” to know? Just a thought.

Not that we needed the sarcastic “go ahead” ~ but in the honorable American tradition of peaceful resistance, we will definitely stand in solidarity to protest later this month. (Some of us reject autocratic rule and want to be on record.) From THIS side of the issue, sipping coffee with cocksure indifference appears to be the modern day version of fiddling while Rome burns. Conflicting perspectives I suppose.
