Missing the prince

When my News-Register arrived in last Friday’s mail, I quickly scanned the obituaries and didn’t find myself listed there. I next moved on to the stories and pictures from the past, when news didn’t just consist of the senior golf and bowling scores, and what happened in sports.

Then, from past experience, I dug out my magnifying glass to enjoy the “Prince Valiant” comics — and couldn’t find them.

Perhaps I needed a microscope instead. But nope, they were missing.

Why?

Who really reads those alleged comics on the page printed in color? I don’t!

Editor’s note: Last week’s missing “Prince Valiant” and this week’s edition appear today on Page A14. We’ve increased the size of the strip to improve legibility.

Third World hellhole

Alexis de Tocqueville, a French aristocrat, diplomat, sociologist, political scientist, political philosopher and historian chronicling events of the early to mid-1800s, is credited with saying, “America is great because America is good. If America ever stops being good, it will stop being great.”

Well, people, America has stopped being good. I think the reasons for this are:

Abortion: the murder of 64 million unborn babies since 1973.

Transgenderism: the willful mutilation of children.

Debt: the irresponsible handling of the wealth with which we’ve been blessed.

Moral decay: political leaders who lie, cheat, misinform and gaslight with impunity.

Crime and drugs: unvetted immigration resulting in rampant lawlessness.

Corruption: misappropriation of the FBI, CIA, IRS, DHS and judiciary.

Misinformation: a press that deliberately censors, misinforms and disinforms the public.

These are observations of a concerned citizen regarding the election for 2024.

If you examine with an open mind the state of affairs listed above, you will notice the abuses are predominantly supported by Democrats. I, for one, believe America is doomed to become a Third World hellhole if the Democrats retain or increase their control.

No flaks out front

This is from one Marine officer to another:

I don’t wish to disparage your service, Sen. Vance. However, I don’t know any Marines who didn’t see combat. And when I was in combat myself, I didn’t see any passing out press releases.

Third World hellhole

A real blow to these evil forces would be for passage in September of:

DISENGAGING ENTIRELY FROM THE UNITED NATIONS DEBACLE ACT of 2023

(HR:6645 / S:3428)

A super majority will be required to overcome a presidential veto.

Therefore, a vigorous effort is required to demand Representatives / Senators pass this Act. That is something for which we can all participate.

The coming election is likely going to be another selection v. true election. In other words, little if any democracy involved.
But some real democracy is involved in pressuring Reps. & Senators to pass:

Otis

Yep....it was all great and good here back in the mid 1800's. Can't we just go back to that carefree time?

Otis

The extremely tired idea of cloaking oneself in a twisted form of Christianity in order to enact some kind of permission structure to act violently towards Democrats....rinse and repeat. Yawn.

Lulu

Creepy letter from "concerned citizen." I'll bet he denies the Holocaust, as well.
Otis, I think the word "twisted" accurately describes this person. Sounds like he has another tired, paranoid "manifesto."
By the way, from which country did the Long family emigrate?

As Americans head into the crucial election in November I am deeply concerned by the manifestation of lies, malicious misinformation, and vitriol that toxify our discourse. Demonize Democrats if you must – you may believe that distracts from the deterioration of the formerly honorable Republican Party, or at least creates a false equivalency? It does not.

So distressing that some (a dwindling minority I hope) of my fellow citizens seem oblivious to the fact that a second Trump reign will be the end of democracy as we know it. Think that is hyperbole? I invite you to read Project 2025, to listen to the MANY former members of his administration describe the TRUE nature of his character and intentions, to watch Trump’s actions and take them seriously. (The last time he was entrusted with our nation he resorted to violence in an attempt to overthrow the government – just to stay in power when we voted him out.) I certainly have disagreements with Dem policies on occasion, but they currently represent our best alternative to dictatorship. So many of our ancestors fought and died to preserve our freedom, I can’t bear to think we could render their sacrifices meaningless by electing someone who promises only revenge and authoritarian rule.

I do agree that an open mind is essential – just so, “concerned citizen” – are you inclined to practice what you preach?
