This is so silly. The district is not "embattled". The Chief by his own admission misused credit cards for fuel. As any reasonable Board of Directors should do, they have brought in an outside investigator to review the situation and determine if they have the whole picture or not. Once the results of that review are completed, then they may or may not take additional action. The objective here should be a thorough and comprehensive review. If the Chief is in the clear, I'm sure he'll cooperate with the investigator. The district is dealing with a personnel issue - period. Those cannot be discussed openly while in process and even some of the findings cannot be discussed. Community members need to chill and await the investigators findings and subsequent board action after that. The facts will determine the proper action to take at the appropriate time.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think at most Fire Districts, The Fire Chief is on call 24/7. This means, that these Chiefs either use the company vehicle or personal vehicle to the call. Each months, these Chiefs are reimbursed for ALL of their personal fuel PLUS their milage IF, they had to use their personal to get to the call. So, if the Yamhill Fire District has not been doing this for this Chief, they owe him back a LOT of money.

@Patches1 the fire chief has a department issued command vehicle that he takes home with him so there is no personal fuel used.

Concerned Yamhill Citizen

The residents of the Yamhill Fire District should be concerned about how the YFD Board has been running things. Officers treat their roles as being King and holding court. They were called out about not knowing their own bylaws, which they have violated for years. Jim Phillips has allowed his wife to attend highly confidential meetings that she has zero reason to attend. I understand spousal pillow talk but this should not be tolerated. They only release to the public what’s they want us to know and withhold a lot of improper behavior that’s been allowed to continue for far too long. It’s past time the citizens of the fire district get involved and hold the board members accountable.
