Floral arrangements: Amity prepares for annual Daffodil Festival

Rachel Thompson/News-Register##Erin Rainey, one of the organizers of the Amity Daffodil Festival, shows off various hues of daffodils in her shop, Rainflower. She said she’s hoping March will go out like a lamb, making Saturday a nice day for the annual event. However, the daffodils don’t care about the weather, she said: “they come along no matter what.” According to Weather.com, the forecast for Saturday is a high of 64 degrees during the day, with partial clouds and light winds, dropping to 39 degrees overnight.

Amity’s annual Daffodil Festival will feature all kinds of plants as well as the bright yellow blooms themselves.

The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 30, in the Amity Community Center, 401 S. Trade St. Admission is free.

The Oregon Daffodil Society will be judging daffodil blooms. Visitors can see the broad range of flower types available, from tiny to large, in whites and oranges as well as yellow.

Amateur growers can submit home-grown daffodils prior to judging at 1 p.m.

Daffodil and flower-related art will be on display at two locations in Amity. Children’s and adult art will be featured.

Garden art also will be offered for sale, along with numerous other items such as jewelry.

Local restaurants will offer specials. Wine tasting rooms will be open to visitors, as well. Earth & Wood gallery will debut its new studio building.
A Daffodil Festival care show is planned in the parking lot at Amity Middle School, just off Trade Street.

Two walks are planned on Saturday, as well. Walkers can take a 3-mile course around town or a 6-mile course leading out into the countryside.
Amity Downtown Improvement Group and the city sponsor the event.
