Should have been voted on by the people. Just another bullshit tax to charge people trying to get by in these inflated times. Instead of making us pay, why not cut your staff? Yep, should have been voted on by the people who will be paying this "TAX."

Even with the half a million dollars every year from the transient lodging tax, they're still short?

sisinmac... I agree 100%. There should be an independent audit, with reported results made public as to why we are in this hole. And since this *tax* will more than make up the deficit in less than a year, will the city be stopping the *tax* after that? Doubtful. They now have a new revenue stream to play with.

This is how cities/counties/states add taxes without votes.

My uncle owns property in northern California. No one lives on the land and it isn't used for farming anymore but it has a well. In the past, someone would come from the county every year to inspect the health of the well. Several years ago the county commissioners decided to create a fee of $750 for well inspections.

Oregon has headed down this path and it will get ugly.
