Sounds like a place they won't want to return to. Good job!

What a shame for the "real" victims in this case, the Yamhill County Juvenile Detention Facility, Sheriff Tim Svenson, Community Justice Director Jessica Beach and Detention Center manager Scott Paasch. This young adult JE Jack Edwards son of Steve and Jan Edwards of Dayton OR has harassed, belittled and abused students, teachers, bus drivers, neighbors for years without a consequence. Now his parents who never taught him to respect human beings and allowed him to treat people horribly wants to sue the system who is cleaning up after their mess. Something is wrong here.

Regardless of what they are accused of, men on death row get treated better than that place. Yes, I understand, make it a place they don't want to go back to, but a girl moving the hair out of her face, while doing 5 am exercises, should NOT get tackled to the ground. They don't get pillows, what? Why? What is the purpose of that. I'm not saying make it all comfy cozy for them by any means, but abuse isn't the answer.

"Delinquents" are not the only children housed in Oregon juvenile detention centers. Runaway children are housed in detention (many having run to escape foster homes, or abusive biological families). Severely mentally ill children are often housed in detention, as they often come to the attention of authorities for inadvertently committing minor offenses during a mental health episode. Foster children adjudicated for low-level offenses often find themselves in detention when their foster families kick them out. Even the true "delinquents" often come from homes with abusive, mentally ill, or drug-addicted parents. Professionals in this arena are faced weekly with the decision whether to house an accused delinquent in detention or seek the involvement of DHS Child Welfare to place the children in foster care. Wayward youths from healthy families who *might* be deterred by the relative harshness of detention represent a small fraction of the population in these facilities.
Yamhill County Juvenile Detention staff are generally sympathetic, humane, and accommodating towards all Youths housed in the facility. I think they would agree that it is not too much to ask that our County properly feed and house detained children, and treat them with dignity. If policies and practices imposed from the top demand otherwise, the County should be made to answer for it.

Is "Correct Care Solutions, LLC" still under contract with the County to provide "Medical Services" to the wards of the juvenile court?

@aesquire,
Maybe not so excluding those being housed for non criminal reasons the rest have proven they don't treat others with dignity and respect so they shouldn't be comfortable.

"the rest have proven they don't treat others with dignity and respect so they shouldn't be comfortable" ~ Why should they be treated SO MUCH WORSE than men and women in prison, who have been convicted of their crime?
Christmas has Talons
@myopinion, that is a different topic and certainly a matter of opinion without comparable facts.

How is that a different topic? I was quoting YOU? The FACTS are stated in the article.
