Its a very convenient store honestly. If everyones biggest gripe is the sign, well, there are worse things in the world than an ugly sign. It helps people who have no transportation into a larger town for necessities. Is the look of a sign more important than a persons needs?

We humans are sure strange. It seems like we always have to be at war against something. And not just traditional, major war with guns and tanks and missiles. To one degree or another we all seem to have a part of us that want's to be at war. It's in our hearts. It's in our homes. It's in our neighborhoods. It's in our world.
Just here locally, you've got the activist's in Mac who are at war against the weather and then you drive out to Amity and you've got folks like Ms Steele who are at war against a store. And that's just in today's edition of the NR. Why are we such a war like people??

I just love how people are overpopulating our area from California and then once they get here they protest about various things that growth entails. The most vocal opponent against these things are wealthy liberal Democrats who have cars and can easily afford to drive to Whole Foods and New Seasons. But they have nothing but contempt for the local Yamhillbillies ruining their “wine country.”

Amity has always cutoff their nose to spite their face. As much as I enjoyed my time in Amity I could never understand how the city government came to the conclusions they did. If you know anything about Amity it has be plagued by recall after recall and constant infighting. The town needs business to come in and tax dollars but things that make sense to the average person has never made much sense to Amity.

Lulu

Ugly store. Cheesy foreign crap. As depressing as Pic 'N' Save. Or the Dollar Tree here in McMinnville. Any savings are not worth the experience.

Lulu, then don't go how about that because there are a good many of us who would be thrilled to not to have to go to town for things that may have been forgotten or needed right away. So it's ugly, yeah and? It provides desperately needed tax revenue for a dying town because your uppity attitude doesn't pay very good dividends.

Lulu

I envision it helping "the town" die faster and crumbier. Who's interested in funding garbage made by Chinese convicts? Incidentally, you're the last person to characterize someone else's opinion as uppity. Will we soon be hearing from "Valentines with Vipers"? "Easter with Egomaniacs"?

gregtompkins

Lulu is no doubt one of these uppity San Francisco area of Portland implants who came here in the last 20 years who shops at Harvest Fresh and New Seasons in Tualatin.

Dollar General carries many leading brands, not just "Chinese junk". I personally am a senior on a fixed income and it gives me a place I can easily walk to, browse the sales aisle, enjoy a conversation with a local resident, pick up a product I forget to purchase while in McMinnville. It gives me an "outing" daily if I want it without have to make a major trip, dressing up, getting in the car, finding parking space, which at my age is a "major trip" as opposed to a relaxing outing.

Christmas has Talons

Lulu, I'm hurt you don't like my name I mean "Lulu"is the essence of creativity right? "Chinese Junk" is a very racist and vulgar term and yes, uppity. Maybe you are to good for the dollar store but it is just the convenience that some need especially young moms.

@myopinion,
I know, right? you can't please everyone but if that's what bringing these people's world to come crashing down why not just ask for different signage? With some people it's all or nothing.

Lulu

How about Chinese crap? What's racist about that? Crap has no specific ethnicity.
And greg, as the antithesis of uppity, have you finally slipped the surly bonds of mental competence?

Mudstump

Yeah...just what we need. Another boring box store full of cheap stuff made, produced or manufactured by someone other than an American. Another store owned by out-of-state interests that take all of their profits out of our community. They don't bank here or invest any of their money back into the community. No thanks!

myopinion

@mudstump

But they do hire local, that money goes back into our local economy.

Lulu

Minimum wage--jobs never advancing.

myopinion

"Minimum wage--jobs never advancing." But its a start, and its experience?????

Lulu

It's as much of a start as a hamster on a wheel. He puts in the frantic paces but never arrives anywhere.

myopinion people don’t want to even do ag work any more so the elitists from the cities live in their urban enclaves while the near slaves (often times illegals) do the hard work. It will be interesting what happens when ag work is automated and the need for illegals is lessened.
