Davey described it as “not as bitter, not as alcoholic, or malty as the pils,” Heater Allen’s flagship beer. “Gold Dot as a brand is both of us, a combination of both of us. I’m really excited. I think everyone in McMinnville is pretty proud of Heater Allen for its amazing beer,” said Davey, formerly of Wayfinder in Portland. We want to make the perfect beer, Helles is a lager that is very complicated, it’s a hard beer to make,” The brewers used a specific barley from Germany, Steffi, named for tennis great Steffi Graf. “It is a low alcohol, 4.9 percent beer, a very dry beer, but it has so much malt flavor for being such a small beer. Drinkability is the focus of Helles.”
