Grizzlies recognized by Pacific Conference

Eight McMinnville baseball players were honored by the Class 6A Pacific Conference in its all-league selections.

Juniors Zach Rhoads, Cameron Fox and David Brosius all made the Pacific Conference first team. Fox led McMinnville in batting average (.466), on-base percentage (.570) and slugging percentage (.630) while serving as a designated hitter and left fielder. Rhoads batted .429 for the season, with an on-base percentage of .501 and a slugging percentage of .551 as the Grizzlies’ centerfielder. Brosius’ accolades came from his work as a pitcher; he went 6-1 in nine appearances with a 1.42 earned-run average and 50 strikeouts against 26 walks on the season.

Sophomore Kade Mechals was the only Grizzly named an all-conference selection twice. Mechals made the Pacific Conference second team as a pitcher (5-1, 0.61 ERA, 46.0 innings pitched, 51 strikeouts, 28 walks) and garnered honorable mention as a shortstop (.295 batting average, .398 on-base percentage).

Juniors Adrian Uscanga (.341 batting average, .477 on-base percentage) and Kyle Casey (.356 batting average, .400 on-base percentage) also made the conference’s second team. Sophomore first baseman Sam Swenson (.315 batting average, .413 slugging percentage) and utility player Jacob Bannister (.232 batting average, .298 on-base percentage) earned honorable mention.

Tigard senior Bruin Campbell was named Player of the Year. Tualatin junior Jacob Bennett received Pitcher of the Year honors, and Timberwolves head coach Adam Strachan was named Coach of the Year.

McMinnville finished second to Tualatin in the Pacific Conference standings, going 21-8 overall (12-5 Pacific). The Grizzlies made the quarterfinals of the Class 6A state playoffs before falling to Tualatin.

Where do you get your information? Eight players made All-League left off Jacob Bannister (Honorable Mention).

Don Dix

Congrats to Jake! But really, Jake was a senior, and the seniors on this year's team were just table dressing! That can be assessed by who was selected from the Mac team.

Well said Bannister and Dix! Its all about playing traveling. High school sports are kinda a joke. Those awards are given out by other coaches, and if they don't see ya traveling they don't recognize your name and don't vote for you.
