WVL players receive all-state honors

Nine Yamhill County softball players were named to the Class 3A all-state team, voted on by the coaches and released publicly Friday.

Freshman third baseman Kylee Hill was named second team all-state as an infielder.

Willamina pitcher Jill Coblentz and second baseman Maryssa Myers garnered all-state honorable mention, as did Amity outfielder Anna Zapata.

Rainier, the 2014 state champions, swept the top all-state honors. Junior Jessica Gibson was named Player of the year, junior Shelby Saylors was named Pitcher of the Year and Columbians coach Cary Gray was named Coach of the Year.

Dayton was the West Valley League champion for a fourth consecutive season, finishing undefeated in league play (10-0) and going 21-5 overall.

Willamina placed third in the West Valley League and advanced to the 3A state playoffs after going 7-3 in league play (14-12 overall). Amity finished fifth in the league, also going 3-7 (7-11 overall).
