Willamina schedules kindergarten roundup
The district is restructuring the program this year.
The purpose is to educate parents on necessary skills for incoming kindergartners and to give parents and families tools to partner in beginning the education process. Information about the changes in expectations for kindergartners as outlined in the the Common Core State Standards will be included in information that is provided.
The district is offering two hour-long assessment and presentation sessions. Parents are asked to pick the one that works best for them, arrive on time for it and plan on staying all the way through.
During each session, parents and children will be divided into two groups.
One group will hear the presentation and complete the registration process while children from the other group undergo an assessment on names, numbers, sounds and such. Then they will switch.
The presentation and registration will be conducted in the library. The assessments will be done in kindergarten classrooms.
Parents need to bring a birth certificate or other proof of birth, along with immunization records. Registration packets will be available in the elementary school office prior to and on roundup day.
