It sounds like Paolo was taken to Yamhill County's kangaroo court.

The sort of actions pursued against Paolo are usually reserved for egregious malfeasance. By nearly all accounts of those who worked with him, Paolo was an outstanding employee -- some say gifted. Since a seemingly-exhaustive independent investigation more or less exonerated him and since those who maneuver against him aren't talking, one is left with the impression that all of this is a result of simple personality clashes.

Pretty expensive way to prove a petty point. Didn't we leave this kind of crap behind in junior high?

It should and I hope it does result in fees and damages. Attorney fees and damages are the only recourse available for a victim of this type of small minded and petty decision. Mr. Paola deserved more that a no comment-3 minute hearing. He didn't get that, so he will likely get a nice settlement check. Let's just remember where the buck stops for these decision next time we vote.

Paolo is reported to have been paid $46,000 to compensate him for legal expenses and a like sum for damages. I can think of about a thousand better places to spend that kind of money locally. Sure, it's just the insurance company, but we'll pay for that eventually. And now we'll pay again.

We'll all pay and pay and pay...

No only are the taxpayers footing the bill for the ultimate cost of settlements, we are losing a reportedly outstanding employee that saved the county money by his expertise...not to mention losing the city contract for IT sevice that paid most of his salary anyway. This seems to be a decision based on personality. Seems to me that county management's primary duty is to manage our money. I want the best qualified people in county positions and I'm not willing to pay for the results of personal grudges or vendetta's from a previous administration. Just remember where the responsibility rests....

The damages award was paid by the county's insurance carrier, City County Insurance. However, the county paid the legal fees reimbursement out of its general fund, which represents your tax dollars at work.

As do the insurance premiums....

Yet another glaring black eye for the county. Do they truly believe they operate in a vacuum?
Justice for Paolo! And if he can't have justice, compensate him for the shabby, vindictive treatment by people who apparently answer to nobody.

sbagwell

Yes, and those premiums are based on your track record. Every time you ring up another claim, your rating declines and your premium rises.

The losers in this are the citizens in so many ways. You would think that if County administration had issues with Paolo they would have sat him down and talked about it. Nope, instead they went the very expensive route and sent a talented 21 year veteran employee who was committed to doing an outstanding job down the road. Our loss is that he will now (hopefully) be able to go somewhere else and take those talents to another jurisdiction plus we will end up paying big bucks to compensate him for the serious missteps that have taken place. Why in the world didn't the commissioners step up and put a stop to all this? The wrong person was fired!

What I would like to know and hope eventually comes out of all of this is why they have such a vendetta against Murray. I know him personally and he is the most even keeled, down to earth, humble, hard working guy you would ever meet. It's hard to fathom how he ever got on their hit list to begin with.

Lulu

Maybe because Paolo's positive personality traits enumerated by Joel2828 were at odds with the ridiculous mean-spirited people he had to work around.
