Urban renewal hearing Thursday

The planning commission is also scheduled to hold a hearing on a conditional use application submitted by PEG Inc., owner of the Fircrest Assisted Living Facility, for a 28-bed memory care home for dementia patients next door to the east.

The 25,000-square-foot center would be located on a lot just under 1.5 acres. It would feature a 28-bed ward on the ground floor and 16 studio or one-bedroom apartments on the second floor.

It would run 201 feet long, 66 feet wide and 32 feet tall. The staff is recommending approval.

A copy of the Urban Renewal Plan has been posted at It on the planning department’s page, under proposals and projects.

The urban renewal district would encompass 175 acres from the northeast gateway through the downtown core.

It is intended to raise money, through diverted property taxes, to provide assistance to property owners seeking to improve their sites. It would not, of itself, raise property taxes.
