Sheridan school year extended a day
Weather closed district schools Dec. 6 and 9, then again Feb. 7 and 10. The last day of school will now be Thursday, June 12, with Faulconer-Chapman students being released at 12:20 p.m. and high school and Spartan Academy students at 12:30 p.m.
"We're below the required 990 hours for high school students right now," said Superintendent Steve Sugg. "I think it's important to send a message that time spent in school is important, and we're trying to make up as much as we can."
In other business, the board approved an open enrollment period of March 1-April 1 for the 2014-15 school year. There will be 10 open slots for Spartan Academy for grades 11-12, Sugg said.
Students interested in participating in a Sheridan school program next year are not required to seek permission from the district they are leaving, Sugg noted.
The board will next meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19.
