Memorial Day closures
Most retail businesses will be open over the Memorial Day weekend, but many services and offices will be closed.
The Department of Motor Vehicles is closed today for a furlough, as well as Monday for the holiday.
Banks and the post office will be closed Monday. So will schools and government offices, including city halls, law enforcement front offices, courts and other county, state and federal offices.
The McMinnville Aquatic Center will be closed Monday.
Wildflower show, native plant sale
The Cheahmill Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon will hold a wildflower show and native plant sale on Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the Carnegie Room of the McMinnville Public Library, 225 N.W. Adams Street.
The event will include the largest annual display of labeled wildflowers in northwest Oregon, tours of the native plant garden at the library, and a sale of potted native plants. Participants will be able to examine flowers closely with a hand lens or microscope.

Orientation set for Medical Corps
An orientation for those interested in volunteering for the Yamhill County Medical Reserve Corps is slated for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in the public health conference room at 412 N.E. Ford St.
Yamhill County is part of a national initiative geared toward encouraging individuals to volunteer to assist during public health events.
The MRC is a branch of Citizen Corps which offers medical professionals and those working toward a medical degree a chance to support a broad range of emergency and disaster responses locally. Doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, EMTs, pharmacists and others are invited to participate.
