Fundraising to benefit Sheridan student
A 2002 illness forced amputation of both Tristan’s legs at the knees. He rode a handcycle in last year’s Oregon Disability Sports competition and has wanted one of his own ever since.
Freedom Ryder of Tualatin will fit Tristan with a custom-made handcycle at a cost of about $4,000. Friends, relatives, classmates and school staff members have joined forces to raise the money.
The following events are scheduled:
n Friday, May 17, a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a silent auction and demonstration of the handcycle from 7 to 8, at the school.
n Through May 17, a penny drive. A container is located outside the school office.
n Friday, May 10, a car wash adjacent to the old gym pickup area.
n Through Thursday, May 2, a sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts at $10 a dozen. Orders can be placed through May 2 and picked up Friday, May 10, at the school.
Students and staff held a hat day earlier this month. Each participant paid 50 cents and could wear a hat during the school day.
