Fundraiser set for Chaplain's Pantry

The fundraiser will be held at The Venue, behind Sears at 1629 N.E. Baker St. It will feature wine by the glass, music by the Humlie Family and the Occasional Quartet, and dessert creations by Pete Rahier, coordinator of the Chaplain’s Pantry program.

There is no admission charge, but a free will offering will be taken.

The program is modeled after the FareStart Program in Seattle, which provides job training and placement in the restaurant industry for members of the homeless and disadvantaged population.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has awarded Chaplain’s Pantry a $5,000 start-up grant, according to local associate Richard D. Schafer. He said it has offered another $2,500 if local advocates can raise a 100 percent match by March 31.

Organizers are hoping the March 17 event will produce the $2,500 necessary to qualify for additional funding.
