Friday concerts start at Evergreen
The Ben Rice Band, which plays blues and contemporary music, will kick off the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum’s summer concert series with a performance tonight.
Music will start at 5:30 p.m. on the lawn beside the Evergreen Theater. Admission is $3 per person. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase separately.
Subsequent concerts also will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings. The schedule features:
Friday, July 19, The Folsom Band, a Johnny Cash tribute group.
Friday, July 26, Best of Friends, which plays jazz, blues and the Great American Songbook.
Friday, Aug. 2, The Frank Messina Band, a local big band.
Saturday, Aug. 10, local pianist and composer Mike Strickland.

Utility commission has full agenda
The McMinnville Water & Light Commission, set to meet Tuesday evening, is scheduled to discuss computer services, green power and a water-sharing agreement it is developing with local partners.
The commission plans to convene at 5 p.m. at utility headquarters, at 855 N.E. Marsh Lane. Other business includes scheduling a public hearing on unmetered water rates at Olde Stone Village and a workshop on a new transmission tunnel it is planning.
In additiion, the commission is slated to hold two executive sessions, one to consult with legal counsel about possible or current litigation and one to consult on labor negotiations. Executive sessions are not open to the public, but the rest of the agenda is.
Mac school board to meet Monday
The McMinnville School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, to consider policies and budget committee vacancies. The public meeting will be held in the district office at 1500 N.E. Baker St.
Three three-year positions are open on the budget committee. One slot opened up when Barbara Carter was elected to the board in May and the other two when members completed the maximum six years.
The board also will set substitute rates, swear in newly elected board members and take care of annual business items, such as electing a new chair and finalizing housekeeping items. For more information, call the district office at 503-565-4000.
SWAC to tour Riverbend Landfill
Yamhill County’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee is slated to meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Riverbend Landfill.
The committee will tour the facility, which is owned by Houston-based Waste Management Inc., and get an update on operations.

The committee’s next meeting after that is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Room 32 of the county courthouse.
City to re-pave Orchard, Alpha
The city of McMinnville will be paving Orchard Avenue, between McDaniel Lane and the railroad tracks, and Alpha Drive, between Orchard Avenue and Riverside Drive, from July 17 through 20.
The project, part of a citywide pavement preservation plan, will include grinding off old asphalt and replacing it with fresh, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps and making other improvements.
Business accesses will remain open throughout the project. Drivers should expect intermittent delays, however, and need to be alert for construction signs, flagging personnel and construction equipment.
The west end work, between McDaniel Lane and Lafayette Avenue, is scheduled for July 17 and 18. The east end work, between Lafayette Avenue and the railroad tracks, including Alpha Drive, is scheduled for July 19 and 20.
