Many years ago, I was one of three people so honored by then governor Vic Atiyeh, for my many hours of volunteering in Port Orford, Oregon. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the luncheon, as it was held on the day my husband, Dan, died. I had nothing to tell of the honor except the invitation to the luncheon, for which I would have had to pay myself, until a friend of mine who also knew the governor, told him my tale of woe and he sent me the appropriate certificate, which I cherish.
This article brought back such memories!
