Extension Service to offer forestry course
The five-session course is intended to introduce beginners to modern management techniques and provide more experienced landowners with a refresher.
The course runs $40 for an individual participant and $50 for two or more from the same family. Pre-registration is required by Feb. 25.
Topics include assessing and identifying a suitable site, planting trees, understanding tree biology, understanding forest ecology, caring for an established forest, controlling weeds, managing timber sale logistics and mastering relevant laws and regulations.
Except for a culminating field outing, the class will be taught at Amity High School, 503 Oak Street. Sessions will run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the Tuesday evenings of March 5, March 12, March 19 and April 2, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
