Dundee eying code projects

The council is slated to meet at 7 p.m. in its city hall quarters, at 6230 S.W. Fifth St.

In addition to receiving the award, it is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a major rewrite of the city’s development code. However, Daykin said actual policy changes are rare.

He said the project was undertaken at the recommendation of a consultant, following a code audit. He said it is primarily intended to bring city codes into compliance with state laws that have changed over time, and to make them easier to interpret and administer.

Once those changes are in place, he said, the city plans to begin considering policy changes.

For example, Daykin said, currently, there is a Victorian design overlay for the downtown commercial zones. He said, “I think everybody pretty much agrees that they’d like to replace that with something more appropriate, and that’s what this planning process will help us get to.”

Also on the agenda are a contract award for sewer line repairs to keep out rainwater; an informational presentation from City County Insurance, on updates to the Affordable Care Act; and a proposal by the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, to enact a chronic nuisance ordinance.
