The Pirates went 5-0 in the tournament, including a 60-24 victory over Yamhill-Carlton. Dayton defeated Gervais, 51-30, in the closest of its five meets on the day; the Pirates also defeated Hidden Valley (57-21), Corbett (54-17) and Molalla (72-0).
Y-C defeated Amity, 45-18, and eked out a victory over Vernonia (31-27). The Tigers fell to Gervais (63-24) and Hidden Valley (48-28) to finish the tournament 2-3.
Amity went 3-2 for the tournament, taking down Molalla (54-18), Corbett (30-18) and Vernonia (39-30). The Warriors lost to Gervais (54-24) and Y-C.
“We really weren’t challenged team-wise, but there were some tough individual matches,” Dayton coach Rob Henry wrote in an email. “At this point in the season, it is all about fine tuning and fixing the little things which end up making a big difference at district and state.”
