this is getting stupid!what's next? banning bad breath in public places, you want people to quit smoking but when they find something that helps to quit smoking that involves no smoke and no expelled carcinogens you want to ban that too!you cannot even tell a person is using one unless you see them, you cannot smell it,i would rather be around e-cigs all day than real lit cigarettes,or gaudy cologne,or disgusting body odor.

I agree with you listen*up. I smoked a little over a pack of Marlboros a day and quit using a personal vaping device to vaporize eliquid which contains nicotine. Smokers who have had trouble quiting cold turkey or using nicotine gum or patches have another way that both satisfies the craving for nicotine and the need for the physical action of puffing and inhaling. Eliquid can be purchased in 24 mg, 18 mg, 12 mg, 6 mg and zero mg of nicotine. As a smoker quits they can purchase eliquid in decreasing amounts of nicotine and finally quit altogether or just vaporize zero nicotine instead. Vapor from a personal vaping pen or device is odorless...maybe a hint of the flavor...such as mint, strawberry, etc., but overall the vapor only last seconds. Its crazy to ban vaping devices that contain no tobacco. Its nicotine...not much more addictive or harmful than caffeine and it is helping many people avoid the 4,000 toxic chemicals created by burning tobacco by smoking a cigarette. BTW...nicotine occurs naturally is some of the vegetables we eat, such as, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, tea, peppers and cauliflower.

"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose", Janis Joplin, 'Me and Bobby Mcgee", 1971. Possibly writer Kris (Kristofferson) knew something way back then!

I heard her sing those words at the S.F. Fillmore West(Carousel ballroom)back in 72, or was it 73? I dunno, I was just a young Marine high on LSD.

Or, maybe even back in 67 or 68 when I was a Boy Scout. That was kinda a 'fuzzy period' in my life, too.

Joplin's version was released in '71 (Pearl). She had passed away in October, 1970. Posthumous #1 single on US charts. What a voice!

My reference was to point to how many 'freedoms' are no longer 'free'. The 'nannies' always know what's best for all! (at least they think they do).

paleface

Thanks Don, you're correct. It was probably back in 67 when I was an 8th grader.

....and Ike and Tina Turner were still married.

Ike Turner wrote the very fist
'Rock & Roll' song, Don. Did you know that? Rocket 88....

paleface, the title of first rock and roll song could be one of several songs. Rocket 88 came out in 1951. When Ike was asked whether Rocket 88 was the first rock and roll song, he said this ..."but the truth of the matter is, I don't think that "Rocket 88" is rock'n'roll. I think that "Rocket 88" is R&B, but I think "Rocket 88" is the cause of rock and roll existing ...".

Frankly, it makes no difference which song is considered the first rock'n'roll. I'm just thankful that the music my folks listened to was not my only choice in the 50s. With the radios in the bean and berry fields all tuned to the same station (KGW or later, KISN), it made the work day much easier to handle.

One way or another, thanks to all who contributed! I still listen to classic rock, exclusively!
