Commissioners approve upgrades

The aim is to save about 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of power a year. The staff said Bonneville Power Administration conservation funds would cover 70 percent of the cost.

They also approved the purchase of a new set of backup batteries at McGuire Dam, at a cost of $16,630, to power emergency operation of the shutoff valves. The old batteries, Purchasing Manager Chad Hudson told the commission, have reached the end of their 10-year useful life.

In other business, commissioners authorized a change to the agreement with the city of McMinnville, clarifying who is in charge of deciding whether to expand the system. That authority now rests with Water & Light.

Finally, commissioners held an executive session to discuss labor negotiations. They canceled a executive session that had been scheduled on litigation.
