Mayor's Ball goers will kick up their heels Saturday night

Kids as in Kids on the Block, the after school activity and enrichment program that serves about 600 local children each quarter of the school year. The ball is a major source of funding for the program.

And country in a variety of ways — jeans and boots, as well as tuxes and ballgowns, for the attendees; an opportunity to win the chance to drive a NASCAR racer down South or another kind of “country” experience, this one involving travel to the country of Italy.

The 27th annual fundraising gala, with the theme “Country Charm and Rustic Elegance,” will run from 7:30 p.m. to midnight in the McMinnville Community Center. Dana Libonati & Ad Lib will play during the early part of the evening, and Five Guys Named Moe will kick it up later.

Along the way there will be a barn full of food — hearty appetizers such as grilled sirloin, barbecue pork sliders,corn and bacon chowder and grilled corn cakes with toppings. A no-host bar will be open, as well. 

And the raffle and a silent auction — with more than 60 items at every price point, including those big trips — will run through most of the evening. Midway through, there will be a program featuring some of the thousands of youngsters who’ve benefited from KOB over the years, now grown to be successful adults.

The community center will be decorated in a style that’s a little bit of country and a little bit glamorous for the event: Glittery stars, hay bales and other touches, both elegant and rustic.

Tickets for the ball are $50 each, or $400 for a table of eight. Kids on the Block Director Janet Adams said tables of 10, 12 or any size also can be accommodated.
