Former Mac High principal to leave state job

Former McMinnville High School principal Rob Saxton, now heading the state Department of Education in his capacity as deputy superintendent of public instruction, plans to vacate the $190,00 post at the end of the fiscal year.

He plans to become superintendent of the Northwest Regional Education Service District.

Saxton is a Linfield College graduate. He was principal of Mac High in the late 1990s before moving to Sherwood, then Tigard-Tualatin, as a school superintendent. He took the state job three years ago.

In announcing his plans, Saxton said he has enjoyed working with educators across Oregon. "You all bring such passion, dedication, skill, and expertise to your work every day, and what you do makes a positive difference in the lives of children across our state," he told them. "You inspire me daily."
