Newberg festival will celebrate Camellias

Free festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Chehalem Cultural Center, 415 E. Sheridan St.

The highlight will be the Oregon Camellia Society’s bloom show. The camellia is Newberg’s official flower.

The day will start with a 5- and 10-kilometer run.

Throughout the festival, groups such as Monmouth Taiko, Lee’s Lion and Dragon Dancers, and The Oregon Koto Ensemble will perform.

Martial arts demonstrations, a koi pond and hands-on art activities will take place in the Family Tent.

Vendors from around the region sell food, crafts and jewelry connected to Pan-Asian culture. Sales of plants and garden art will run throughout the festival.

Trolley tours will give visitors a look at historic sites around Newberg.

The festival is sponsored by the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce, Chehalem Parks and Recreation and area businesses. The Japan-America Society of Oregon and the Japanese Consulate also participate.
