A Hardy farewell

News-Register bids adieu to its county government reporter

(Ossie Bladine/News-Register)  Today, the News-Register staff reluctantly says goodbye to county government reporter Nathalie Hardy, who has decided to step aside from life in the newsroom to spend more time with family and work on independent writing projects.

Hardy, a Newberg resident, first wrote for the paper in 2000 as a reporting intern. On May 6, 2008, she published her first of many Raising the Hardy Boys column for the N-R, a column that has garnered several awards in journalism competitions. Hardy will continue writing the popular monthly column.

She took the position as county government reporter in July 2012, and you will be hard pressed to find anyone in the county buildings who has not enjoyed working with Nathalie and respects the job she has done. "I like telling stories and making politics accessible," she said when she began the reporting gig.

Softening the blow of losing Nathalie is the arrival this week of Don Iler, who will replace Nathalie. Don, an Oregon State University grad, comes to us from the Curry Coastal Pilot.

Nathlie and Don were both in the newsroom this week, allowing for a smooth transition. They oddly wore similar outfits on multiple occasions, so while it's sad to see Nathalie go, we're pretty sure we found the right person to fill her shoes.
