Mac council to hold hearings on EOA, medical marijuana

McMinnville city councilors will consider a proposal Tuesday to either temporarily ban medical marijuana dispensaries or restrict where they can be located. Which it will be depends in part on what the state Legislature does in the meantime.

The council will hold an informal dinner session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at McMinnville Civic Hall, 200 N.E. Second St. A formal business session is slated for follow at 7.

Two public hearings are on the agenda, one on dispensary siting and the other on an Economic Opportunities Analysis prepared by a consultant whose work is being funded on the city's behalf by development interests. The planning commission voted 5-3 to recommend approval of the analysis.

In other business, the council plans to:

n Appoint members of a transient lodging tax advisory committee. The committee will review proposals for use of the portion of the proceeds dedicated to tourism promotion.

n Vote on an ordinance that would make winetasting rooms a permitted use in limited light industrial zones, reflecting a recent change in state law.

n Vote on a supplemental budget to allow for purchase of new computer hardware and software for police and municipal court use.
