Meeting set for Overeaters Anonymous

The News-Register staff

A beginners meeting for those interested in learning more about Overeaters Anonymous is set to run noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the chapel at First Baptist Church, 125 S.E. Cowls St.

The group was founded in 1960. Members will discuss its program, explain how that program has worked for them and provide introductory literature.

Overeaters Anonymous views compulsive eating as a physical, emotional and spiritual disease that can be arrested but not cured. Members seek recovery by following the 12-step program patterned after that of Alcoholics Anonymous.

There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins. It is self-supporting through the voluntary contributions of members.

The group meets every Friday at the same time and location.
