Vendors, volunteers sought for expo
Registration is now open for vendors and mock interviewers interested in participating in the fourth annual Yamhill County Career & College Expo, set for Tuesday, March 12, at the event center at the Nazarene Church on the Hill, 700 N.W. Hill Road.
Booths are limited to the first 65 vendors applying.
The session will be limited to high school juniors from 9 a.m. to noon, then open to the general public from 1 to 3 p.m. It will feature a keynote speaker, career breakout sessions, mock interviews and a business and college trade show in the morning; it will hold a career fair and educational workshops in the afternoon.

David M. Johnson has joined McMinnville Community Media as outreach and digital video specialist. In the role, he will help publicize the local television station’s services and facilities, coordinate video training classes and workshops for McMinnville residents, and produce various local programs.
A Salem native, Johnson holds a bachelor’s in new media communications from Oregon State University. He previously served as a student manager and program director at OSU’sKBVR, worked as a video assistant in the athletic department, held a video and logistics position with SRIUniversity in Portland, and, most recently, served on the staff of CVTV, the government television channel in Vancouver, Wash.

According to year-end figures provided by the Regional Multiple Listing Service, Yamhill County had 66 pending sales in December, up 6.5 percent from the previous December. For the year, pending sales totaled 1,008, up 16.3 percent.
According to the RMLS, 979 residential sales closed in Yamhill County in 2012 at an average price of $214,800, up 8.3 percent. The median sales price was $180,000, meaning half were higher, half lower.
In addition, the county recorded the sale of eight commercial properties, 66 tracts of bare land and 16 multi-family housing structures.
TheYamhill County Small Woodlands Association and OSU Extension Service will host Bruce Alber of Wilbur-Ellis at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23. The program will be held in the Extension Service Auditorium at 2050 N.E. Lafayette Ave.
Alber will discuss proper use of chemicals in all phases of forest management, including the emergence of new invasive species and methods to reduce their impact on native vegetation. Using the right chemicals can make a significant difference in seedling survival and growth, he said

The Sheridan Chamber of Commerce’s annual community awards banquet will open with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the West Valley Community Campus, 266 S.W. Washington St. in Willamina.
The theme will be a 1950s sock hop with a Buddy Holly Diner menu. Peggy Sue’s Fountain will dish up root beer and cherry cola floats. Beer and wine will also be available.
The awards presentation is set for 6:30 p.m., with the sock hop following with a live band.
The eventing will feature costumes and prizes. Prize donors are being sought.
Advance tickets are available for $20 at Slow Train Coffee, 229 S. Bridge St. in Sheridan. Tickets will run $25 at the door.

TheMcMinnvilleArea Chamber of Commerce has a greeters set to run 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, on the Mayor’s Charity Ball, a benefit for Kids on the Block. The greeters will be held at Harvest Fresh, 251 N.E. Third St. downtown.
Newberg’s Chehalem Valley Chamber has one scheduled for 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the chamber office, 115 N. College St. It is for the chamber ambassadors program.
