AMITY — One person was seriously injured Tuesday morning when the box truck he was driving rear-ended a pickup north of Amity on Highway 99W at Whiteson Road.

The Oregon State Police gave this account:

About 11:47 a.m., a Dodge pickup driven by Joel Stockhoff, 54, of Dayton, was stopped southbound on the highway, waiting to turn left onto Whiteson Road. It was rear-ended by an Isuzu box truck, driven by Thomas Norton, 52, of Portland. He was driving for Northwest autosolutions Inc. of Milwaukie.

Norton was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

It took McMinnville Fire Department and Amity Fire District personnel about 30 minutes to extricate him from the vehicle, according to Amity Fire Chief Bruce Hubbard.

Stockhoff was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

An Oregon Department of Transportation crew rerouted traffic for about an hour before the highway reopened.
