ODOT names bypass contractor
Hamilton will build the western half of the bypass, from Dundee to Waterfront Road in Newberg. The section includes six bridges, a Hamilton specialty, according to ODOT spokesman Lou Torres.
LaDuke Construction is now finishing work on an $8 million contract awarded for embankment work and rock moving.
Later in the summer, ODOT plans to award a contract for the second section, from Waterfront Road to Highway 219. Next year, it plans to award a contract for the third and final section, as the eastern end.
In other work this summer, ODOT will begin paving Highway 99W from Newberg to the Highway 18/99W intersection, just outside McMinnville.
The paving project, unrelated to bypass work, will skip over Dundee, as that city will be working on sewers and sidewalks this summer. The Dundee section will completed next summer.
The $4.2 million project is set to get underway June 23, starting with sidewalk work in Newberg.
Paving will begin in late July. It will be undertaken at night to avoid unduly impeding traffic on the heavily congested road.
