New market in works downtown

As Shannon Thorson was abandoning one downtown public market venture, one of her former Granary District vendors, Kimi Clark, was teaming up with Tim McDaniel to launch a new one.

Dubbed the Third Street Market, it is going into quarters recently vacated by Yogi’s Studio at 540 N.E. Third St. Unlike the new McMinnville Grange Hall market, it is proposing to operate Tuesday through Saturday, not just on Saturday.

The space came on the market when Yogi’s moved its operation to the McMinnville Community Center, 600 N.E. Evans St. The partners say they have 11 spaces available in the front part of the building, and can expand into the back half if demand warrants.

In addition, they have lined up Aqua-Touch Massage for a separate space in the downtown building.

Clark rented space in the former public market venue at the Granary District at one point. “This is an opportune time to try something different,” she said.

“We’re going to try it for a couple of months and see how the Phoenix flies,” McDaniel said.

They anticipate becoming operational in a few weeks.
