Merkley to appear at town hall in Mac

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley will host at town hall at Chemeketa Community College Yamhill Valley Campus, 288 NE Norton Lane, McMinnville, on Friday, Jan. 11. It will start at 10 a.m.

Myriad congressmen and women hold town halls across the country. But Oregon delegates are known for hosting more than most, for being open to discussion of any and all topics, and for keeping them largely nonpartisan.

Merkley plans to update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C. and answer questions.

"Talking directly to Oregonians in every county is a great way to hear about the issues folks want me to fight for in Washington," Merkley said in a press release.

In 1996, Sen. Ron Wyden pledged to hold a town hall in every Oregon county each year. And when Merkley joined Wyden in the U.S. Senate in 2008, he took the same pledge.

Wyden held a town hall in Newberg on Thursday, Jan. 10.
