Is the meeting only for current members of Unidos, or can new people attend? Will it be in English, or bilingual?

Lulu

What about sign language?

Can’t the reporter even get the name right of a person he quotes frequently throughout the article? His name is Ludwick, not Ludwig. He’s been in the news so many times this can’t possibly be an innocent error; it’s a deliberate put-down on Ludwick and the cause he speaks for. If a copy editor is responsible, a pox on both of them.

Reporter Starla Pointer

Thanks for letting us know about the mistaken spelling of Jim Ludwick's name, so we could fix it.

"State, county and local law enforcement agencies generally can’t enforce federal laws, Noble said. It is a matter of proper jurisdiction, completely independent of the immigration issue."

What??? Local police can't enforce federal laws??? Tell that to the widow of Lavoy Finicum...the rancher who was gunned down in a snow bank by Oregon State Police Troopers who were trying to apprehend him for violating federal laws (he protested the federal govt at a bird refuge near Burns afew years ago).

tagup

He was “gunned down” because he ran a roadblock and reached for a gun when being apprehended.... not for breaking federal law.....you do recall that the FBI was involved.

I suppose our local law enforcement should arrest all the pot shop owners too?....

Joel2828

C'mon Tag, Your posts are usually more honest and sophisticated than that.
It is true that the reason they gave for shooting Mr Finicum was that they claimed he reached for a gun (watch the video closely frame by frame and you may have some doubts about that, as I do...but that's a whole different topic).
But the fact is Tag, they were local (state) law enforcement officers who had set up a road block and were actively cooperating with federal agents in trying to arrest Mr Finicum and his buddies for the federal crimes of trespassing on federal property and preventing federal employee's from doing their jobs at the bird refuge.
All I'm saying is that if our local (State) police can help the feds round up those bird refuge protesters they can surely help the feds round up illegal immigrants.

Joel2828

and bringing up pot shops? Dang Tag, I think that is the first time I've ever seen you resort to using a red herring here. Even though I rarely agree with him on political issues, I want the old Tag back.

In the wake of the non-existant immigration “crisis” fabricated by the current president, anti-immigration nativists like Mr. Ludwick feel the wind at their back.
However, the law they want to change has been in effect for over 30 years, and as the testimony from Mr. Noble shows, has worked well for law enforcement.
This measure is a solution for a non-existing problem, and on a practical level more likely to be unhelpful. So I hope it fails.

If you are here illegally you should have to go back to where you came from, especially if you break the law. Its not fair to people who spend years doing it the right way. Congress on both sides needs to quit sitting on their hands and give us REAL immigration reform that works for everyone.
