McMinnville man injured in crash
ALBANY — A McMinnville man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning west of Albany at the intersection of Highway 20 and Independence Highway in Benton County.
The Oregon State Police gave this account:
Tomas A Garza, 42, of McMinnville, was driving a 2004 Honda Civic southbound on Independence Highway. After approaching a stop sign at the intersection, he attempted to turn left onto Highway 20, and his car was struck on the driver's side by a 2000 Subaru station wagon driven by Ethan Glaser, 25, of Albany.
Garza had to be extricated by Albany Fire Department personnel. He was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. He is reported in serious condition.
Cindy Wood of McMinnville posted on her Facebook page that Garza sustained multiple fractures and will undergo surgery today at a Portland hospital. She said he faces a long period of recovery.
Glaser was not injured.
Garza was cited for fail to obey a traffic control device.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and the air bags in their vehicles deployed.
Highway 20 was closed for about 50 minutes while the crash was investigated and the scene cleared.
