Linfield building's namesake dies
Theodore J. “T.J.” Day, a 1971 graduate of Linfield College, died Thursday.
A real estate and natural resources developer, he had served on the Linfield Board of Trustees since the year after he graduated. He was Linfield's distinguished alumnus in 2011.
Day was "an energetic advocate for student educational experiences inside and outside the classroom" for more than 40 years, according to Dave Haugeberg, chairman of the trustees.
Haugeberg said Day was instrumental in securing the largest corporate gift ever received by the college, the Hewlett-Packard property. He also helped support improvement projects such as the renovation of Riley and Walker Halls and Michelbook House, construction of the Rutschman Fieldhouse, and creation of the Nicholson Library and Vivian A. Bull Music Center.
In recognition of his support, trustees named the former library T.J. Day Hall when it was renovated.
