Lafayette talks franchise fees

The company is seeking a five-year extension to its 10-year franchise agreement.

Either of the suggested rates would represent a substantial increase from the $1 per linear foot the city is currently charging, which is well below the going rate around Oregon. Councilors directed Polasek to negotiate with Sprint and return in May with a concrete proposal.

Councilors also approved an amendment to the city’s parks master plan, updating population forecasts, and authorized a five-year renewal of a public works mutual aid agreement with the state Department of Transportation and other Yamhill County cities, in case of emergencies.

They met briefly in executive session to discuss negotiations on acquisition of a water line easement, but took no action in open session. They postponed an appointment to the water resources advisory committee until May.
