Is this supposed to mean something? He doesn't remember the crash and his mom says he's a good driver, so... I don't get it.


It means that's what he said in court when he served as the final witness for the defense.
Our mission in the news columns is just to report. We leave it to others to draw whatever conclusions they find warranted.
It sounds to me as if you found his defense pretty weak, and that the jurors agreed with you on that, judging from the swiftness with which they returned their guilty verdicts.
