Historic tours set for Saturday

Leading the downtown tours will be MDA Manager Cassie Sollars, assisted by Mayor Rick Olson. Sollars said Olson’s family had a downtown business when he was a child and he has some wonderful stories to relate about his experiences.

Downtown tours start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. from MDA headquarters in the Cozine House, a historic structure at 105 N.E. Third St. The tour will include the second floor of the Union Block building, where the upstairs apartment is being remodeled; a walking tour led by staff at McMenamins Hotel Oregon; Marilyn and Matt Worrix’s spacious and well-appointed apartment on the second floor of the old Elk’s Club quarters; and the News-Register, located in the historic O’Dell Building.

In addition, owner Margaret Legard, will lead tours of all five floors of Buchanan-Cellers, located at 855 N.E. Fifth St. They are set for 10 a.m. and noon.

Both McMinnville’s downtown district and Buchanan-Cellers are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Reservations for the downtown portion of the tour are recommended. They may be made by contacting Sollars at 503-472-3605 or
