Grizzlies kick off district meet today

The McMinnville Aqautic Center is hosting the Pacific Conference District meet today and tomorrow, and the home teams hope to stand on the top pedestal when all is said and done.

The Grizzly boys squad would like to avenge its dual meet loss to Newberg earlier in the year with a district title.

Tristan Versteeg and Jacob Porter plan to lead the way. Both will compete in the 100-yard butterfly. Versteeg will also swim 100-yard butterfly, and Porter is set for the 200-yard freestyle.

The girls team used its depth to share the dual meet season title, and will have to utilize it if it hopes to win the district meet.

Junior Molli Hartzell has been Mac's top performer throughout the season. Like Versteeg, she'll compete in the butterfly and backstroke events.

The Sato sisters, Erika (a senior) and Mari (a freshman) will also need to be strong for the Grizzlies. Mari will compete in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke, while Erika will swim the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events.

The top 16 from Friday's varsity events will swim in the finals on Saturday. The varsity relay finals will be swam on Saturday as well.
