Fireworks WILL light skies over Amity

AMITY — The McMinnville Jaycees are planning to stage their annual fireworks show here Thursday, July 4.

While the sky show should be visible from all over Amity, the best viewing area will be in the Amity High School stadium. There is no set charge for admission, but the Jaycees are asking for a donation to help defray the cost of the fireworks.

The show will start about 10 p.m. From 3 on, the band Industrial Buddha will play easy listening tunes. Vendors plan to sell food and other items from late afternoon through the evening.

This will be the third year the Jaycees have set off Fourth of July fireworks in Amity.

The organization has been putting on fireworks shows since the early 1980s, using the Patton Middle School field in McMinnville for many years, then space near the Evergreen museums. It moved the show to Amity after being unable to find any safe, suitable space still available in McMinnville.
